The story of Four Corners Boxing

Alan Smith

Alan began boxing in 1976 as an 11-year-old and went on to compete at every level—schoolboy, youth, and senior. He became a Boys Clubs of Wales Champion and proudly represented his country throughout his amateur career.

During his time in the Armed Forces, Alan boxed for the Royal Regiment of Wales and was part of a team that won back-to-back Army Major Units Boxing titles. Individually, he claimed a bantamweight title and competed in over 100 contests, winning more than 70.

Alan’s coaching journey also began during his military service, where he helped lead the team to a UK Major Units Championship title. After leaving the forces, he established his own gym, producing several Welsh champions. One of his proudest coaching moments was guiding Andrew Robinson, who represented Wales at the 1994 Commonwealth Games.

Alan has had the honour of coaching the national team on two occasions, travelling with the squad to both Scotland and Ireland.

Boxing is a sport like no other—it builds character, strength, respect, and accountability. At Four Corners Boxing, Alan’s mission is to continue instilling these values in everyone who walks through the doors.
